Contemporary white and chrome dining set by Magis and Vitra
 
A beautiful pre-owned and cherished contemporary white and chrome dining set comprising a Magis Big Bombo dining table and 4 original Vitra Verner Panton ‘Panton’ S chairs. Original cost in excess of £3,500 for the set.
 
The Magis Big Bombo table, designed by Stefano Giovannoni, is a development of the much acclaimed and ever popular Eero Saarinen Knoll Studio ‘Tulip’ table and is similar in design. It utilises a detachable white steel plated and chrome pedestal central support under a satin finished high pressure treated white top. It’s a heavy item that is built to last yet can be easily dismantled to be moved or stored. The build quality is evident in the fact this table is over 9 years old and yet shows very few marks on the table top or base save some very light marks to the highly polished chrome base.
 
The ‘Panton’ chairs are a design icon and were originally produced by Verner Panton for Vitra; although they were originally badged as the Herman Miller Furniture Co. (Vitra produced Herma Miller designs under license at that time). The design of the chair has undergone many changes during its lifetime which has included new production methods (it took over 30 mins to produce just one chair in the original format) and new materials. Since 1990 Vitra have been the sole producer of the ‘Panton’ chair and although many cheap copies are on the market these days it’s only the original Vitra production method that stands the test of time – easy to spot when you see how quickly cheaper copies deteriorate.
 
The matt white Vitra chairs are a perfect match for the table and could have been designed with it in mind; you’ll see how the recess in the chair bases almost perfectly fits around the chrome base of the table. This means the set takes up a smaller overall footprint. As such the set is ideal for a small kitchen or dining room and also works well as a secondary dining table in a larger kitchen dining area or conservatory. Both the table and chairs are presented in very good used condition with no major marks to speak of.
