Newly upholstered vintage Italian 1960’s Luciano Frigerio 9 piece solid dark stained Beech and Kingfisher Blue Velvet modular corner Sofa with two coffee tables.
 
Designed in 1966 by Luciano Frigerio for specialist design manufacturers Di Desio, the 'Can Can' sofa is a very flexible modular sofa that can be easily adapted to suit your space. A notable feature of the design is the sculptural backrest constructed with a series of evenly spaced wooden slats. This constructive skeleton like element makes the set visually striking from all angles so it is as much at home in the centre of a room as it is to the side or corner.
 
The newly upholstered velvet cushions simply drape over the wooden framework and are held in place by hidden straps that secure under the top of the frame. The base platforms contribute to the substantial and grounded look of the sofa, but despite their solid form each section (including the corner unit) can be lifted and moved by one person. This also means that the whole set can be easily transported and stored as once the cushions are removed all the base units can simply stack on top of each other.
 
The set, as shown, comprises 9 modular seating sections: one corner section, 4 main seating sections, 3 quadrants and one square base section that can either be used in conjunction with the quadrants to form  circle, or as a separate foot stool – please refer to the accompanying photos for further details. The set also benefits from having two of the original glass topped square tables that can either be integrated into the seating system or used on a standalone basis.

Because all the elements are based on a 60cm wide footprint it means that they can all be joined together in different directions, as well as being able to be combined with the coffee tables too. There are two example configurations shown in the photos: one is more square, and one more oblong. There are, however, numerous ways that the sections could be combined, it’s only really limited by your space and imagination!
 
Condition
All the upholstered elements have been recently upholstered and are therefore in ‘as new’ condition. The wooden bases on all the sections and tables are in very good vintage condition with minor wear commensurate with age and use. The glass in the tables shows a little wear with some light marks and a few very minor chips, but nothing that detracts from the overall visual appeal.
 
Dimensions
The corner section has a seat pad that is 60cm square and including the back rests is 100cm square overall. Each seating section then also has a 60cm seat pad and again with the back rests is 100cm deep. The square seat section addition that can be used with the quadrants or as a foot stool is 60cm square; the tables are 60cm square and each quadrant is a 60cm right angle.
